Caisse Shines at BNS 150 at Motor Mile

Radford, VA:  Sean Caisse showed what he is capable of at the inaugural visit of the NASCAR Grand National-Busch North Series to Motor Mile Speedway on Saturday Night, August 20th.  The Rookie from Pelham, NH earned his first Busch Pole Award as a Busch North Series competitor and went on to lead 40 laps of the Star Country/Dominic's Sausage 150 at the Radford, VA speed plant.  Unfortunately, the official results show that Caisse finished in the 22nd position.

"I am filled with mixed emotions," said Caisse.  "I am disappointed.  We had the field covered tonight.  But this is still an accomplishment…not the one I wanted at the end of the day but…"

"I am also proud of what we were capable of out there.  For the first time, everyone was on an even playing field.  The rest of the guys didn’t have a bunch of years of experience on us here.  And it shows that when we are on an even playing field this is what we can do."

In qualifying, Caisse turned a qualifying lap of 16.779 seconds/87.967 MPH in his Trik Custom Sleds Chevrolet to earn the automatic track record and the pole starting position.  From the drop of the green flag, Caisse had easily worked his way out to a sizeable lead.

"I have never had a car that handled that good and it showed," added Caisse.

At lap 40, disaster would strikes as Caisse was leading his first-ever Busch North Series race.  Joey McCarthy blew an engine in turn one leaving oil on the track.  Caisse was the first to get to the site of the incident and spun in the oil making contact with the outside wall.

"It was out of my control. There was nothing I could do," said Caisse who was virtually a passenger when his racecar hit the oil.

"It's racing.  Things like that are going to happen," said Caisse wisely, "But you just don’t want them to happen in this situation."

The remainder of the pack was somewhere between 20-25 car lengths behind Caisse and were able to avoid further incident.

"Thankfully no one else got involved," added Caisse. "I was quite a bit ahead of everyone else, by the time that they got to the turn, the caution was already out."

The car sustained heavy damage in the incident including a bent front clip.  The Motion Racing worked diligently to get Caisse back on track.

"The guys did an awesome job getting the car back to where I could ride around to get a few more laps," Said Caisse. "We were able to gain a spot on Brian Hoar by going back out."

Despite disappointing finish, Caisse remains 10th in point standings as others had problems on the night as well.  Caisse continues to lead the Rookie-of-Year standings.

Caisse and his team will go to the next race, the Fisher Snowplows 150, at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday Night, August 27, 2005 solid in the knowledge that they have an excellent car and the capabilities to win.
