Half-mile Next Up for Caisse and ASM Team
CONCORD,
NC (July
26, 2006) –
The 2006 NASCAR Busch East Series year may have only started seven
weeks ago, but the season is already more than half-over.
Saturday's Edge Hotel 150 Presented by Casella Waste Systems at
Adirondack International Speedway is the seventh race of 2006,
leaving only four events after AIS remaining on the schedule.
That doesn't leave much time for Sean Caisse and the Andy Santerre
Motorsports team to make their way to the top spot in the
championship standings.
That's
quite okay. Both driver and team are poised to make their
championship aspirations come true.
Two
wins earlier in the year and two-straight runner-up finishes at
Lake Erie (PA) and New Hampshire International Speedway have crept
Caisse and the Casella-sponsored #44 nearer to the points lead,
but this Saturday at Adirondack, Caisse is focused on outrunning
championship rival Mike Olsen to get closer to the title.
"Andy
(Santerre, team owner and four-time BES champion) won the
championship last year only winning two races, so there's no
pressure to win, but winning is still a goal for this team," said
Caisse. "Our main objective is to go out and beat Mike
Olsen. That's our main goal at the racetrack. If we
can finish fifth and Olsen finishes sixth, then that's a good day
for us.
"No
matter where we are on the racetrack, we want to see Olsen behind
us. He's got a good program going for him now. He's on
top of his game right now. He's got a well-prepared car and
he's not going to have any mishaps that are his own doing.
We just have to go out there and beat him on the racetrack every
week."
Although
Caisse has finished second to Olsen in back-to-back races, he's
poised to make a turnaround at
Adirondack
. The tight half-mile in upstate
New York
was the scene of a strong run for Caisse last year before a
last-lap spin relegated him to a 13th place finish.
With one race-event's worth of laps under his belt, Caisse is
ready to go at AIS this time around.
"It's
a fun racetrack and I had a good run there last year. I
think we were in the top five for most of the race and I got spun
on the last lap. We had some altercations with other drivers
throughout the race last year, but this time we want to keep the
car out of harm's way.
"You
really have to get through the corners good there. Forward
bite is a big key at
Adirondack
. It's hard to get both of those at the same time. The
best part on the racetrack is coming off of four. There's a
little dip in the racetrack and a lot of guys slide up off the
corner. If you can get off the corner better then you can
slide under the guys who slip up."
The
Edge Hotel 150 Presented by Casella Waste Systems at
Adirondack
is set to take the green flag shortly after 8pm on Saturday July
29th.
