Caisse Scores Third Busch
East Series Win of 2006 at Adirondack,
Closes Gap on Point Leader Mike Olsen
BEAVER FALLS, N.Y. --
Sean Caisse scored his third
NASCAR Grand
National Division, Busch East Series victory
of 2006 Saturday night in the Edge Hotel 150
presented by Casella Waste Systems at
Adirondack International
Speedway, closing
the gap to point leader Mike Olsen to 34
points with four races remaining. Bryon Chew
finished second with Olsen third, Brian Hoar
fourth, and Dale Quarterley fifth.
Matt Kobyluck, seeking his third straight
Adirondack victory, secured the Busch Pole
with a track record performance, and for 99
laps he held off every move that fellow
front row starter Caisse could throw at him.
Then Kobyluck was forced to take a wide line
in turn four and Caisse grabbed the lead he
would never lose. Kobyluck remained Caisse’s
closest challenger until he spun after
contact with the third place car of Carlos
Pardo with four laps remaining in the
scheduled 150 lap distance. Mike Johnson
could not avoid Kobyluck, putting both out
of the race, elevating Chew to the runner-up
spot, and extending the contest to an
eventual 162 laps to achieve a
green-white-checker finish.
Although he had stopped for tires while
Caisse ran non-stop, Chew was not able to
challenge Caisse in the two-lap dash. Olsen,
who did not pit, was likewise able to hold
off the fresher tires of Hoar and Quarterley.
Jeff Anton, Joey McCarthy, Tracy Gordon,
Ryan Seaman, and Kip Stockwell completed the
top ten. Caisse averaged 57.132 miles per
hour and won by 0.130 seconds.
The caution flag waved seven times for 70
laps, including a red flag at lap 127
following a second turn accident involving
Rich Gould, Todd Aldrich, and Jeremy Clark.
No drivers were injured. Ray Ciccarelli,
making his first Busch East Series
appearance won the POWERade Power Move of
the Race Award for advancing from 29th
starting position to finish 16th. Dion
Ciccarelli, Ray’s brother, was the top
finishing Sunoco Rookie contender and tied
Ruben Pardo for the Sunoco Rookie points
lead. Bryon Chew received the Featherlite
Most Improved Driver Award after improving
his last performance at New Hampshire
International Speedway by 30 positions.
Caisse reduced Olsen’s point lead from 54 to
34 with four races remaining. Behind the
leaders there was a major upheaval as Hoar
and Chew moved into third and fourth places
at the expense of Kobyluck and Johnson.
Hoar, however, trails Olsen by 185 points.
McCarthy and Charles Lewandoski swapped
seventh and eighth places, as did Jeff Anton
and Ruben Pardo with ninth and tenth
positions.
The Busch East Series season resumes on
Saturday, August 19, at Waterford (Conn.)
Speedbowl.
